Let’s Create an Outdoor Space that Feels like Home

For most homeowners, the landscape design process can feel intimidating.

  • Your landscape doesn’t reflect you or serve your needs

  • Your yard is underused and uninspiring

  • You’re not sure where to begin with design or materials

  • You’re frustrated with your perpetually soggy lawn or lack of privacy

  • You wish you had a partner to show you what’s possible

Best Portland Garden designer

That’s where we come in.

We work with clients throughout the Portland metropolitan area to create outdoor spaces that are beautiful in both form and function.

Whether you’re moved by a quiet, calming shades-of-green retreat or a perennial flower garden awash with color, we curate plant combinations that bring your vision to life. A well-designed landscape can include far more than just a compelling planting plan. Effective design includes hardscapes, and often outdoor seating and gathering areas, fire and water features, lighting, garden structures, and beyond. Visually and functionally, those elements must work together to create a landscape that serves your needs and feeds your spirit.

Every project presents unique challenges. These may include HOA and conservation zone requirements, unsightly views, distracting sounds, unattractive street lighting, complicated drainage issues, or a need for more privacy. If you have a concern about your project, we’d like to help you find a solution.

“Thoughtful design supports the natural world. Better choices in alternative ground covers, carefully designed watering systems, and locally-sourced materials will all support a healthier environment for you and the wildlife that is essential to the sustainability of our ecosystem.”

— Lynn Wolfstone

Pre-design

  • We begin with a complimentary phone consultation to discuss your project’s scope and timeline. We then send you a questionnaire, giving you a place to discuss specifics and the broader vision you have for your new landscape.

  • We schedule a time to meet with you on-site and discuss your ideas in more detail.

During the design

  • A Design Contract is prepared with a description of your specific goals. Once signed and returned, we commence our work.

  • Extensive on-site measurements are taken to establish a base plan for your site.

  • The Concept Design is when we gather all your information, needs, and desires into a design with layout, circulation paths, and structural elements. Once reviewed and approved, we move to the next step.

  • The Preliminary Plan is submitted for your approval. This plan expands on all the details, including plants and placement. Revisions are made and we move to the final design stage.

  • The Master Plan is drafted with all plants and materials identified, labeled, and itemized for a professional installation. An electronic or print image gallery of your garden plants is included. We prepare detailed notes for your contractor to ensure the installation’s fidelity to the design plan.

Post-design

  • We will act as your advocate to discuss the project with installers or help you review the contractor’s estimates.

  • During construction, we are available to meet on-site, confirm materials and locations, oversee plant placement, review the progress and answer any questions that may arise.

  • We offer a final walkthrough with the contractor to confirm that your expectations for the project have been met.

  • A garden's success solely depends upon the care it receives as it matures.  We can recommend experienced landscape maintenance companies that will ensure your garden has the proper level of ongoing care.

I could not be happier with our plan, and highly suggest Wolfstone Landscape Design for any of your outdoor landscaping projects! You will not be disappointed.
